Speed Cells® for FCC Linings

Speed Cells® are an easily applicable single-cell system with extremely high resistance to thermal shock.

Origin

Speed Cells® were developed in 1989 for use in refineries, where engineers and installers were facing increasing headaches in applying Hex Metal in Fluid Catalytic Cracking (FCC) installations. SILICON's solution was this single cell system that together with the ramming mixes created its own independent area of influence.

Advantages

Locked together like the pieces of a jigsaw puzzle, they prevent any catalyst from creating a crevice between the metal and the concrete. The steel casing is thereby fully protected from damage.

The single unit structure made the system extremely resistant to thermal shock. Moreover, with the possibility to apply a ceramic paper backing layer, no cokes can be formed between the casing and the refractory material, commonly encountered in Hex metal.

'Biscuiting' is no longer a problem as all the cells are not interlinked, whereby the refractory is held in position - even with extreme thermal shock.
Wear of the surface, especially critical in cyclone inlets, is constant and stable. This stable wear pattern makes repair planning predictable and cost effective. Longer lifetimes are encountered when used in conjunction with fine-grained ramming mixes like Actchem, Cyclone, Mix-D, or similar products.
